Coming hot on the heals of the pièce de la résistance that was his Goethe Night commission, Zheng Yunhan is now taking part in the group show ‘The Game is Not Over: Young Chinese Artists’ at Arario Gallery. The opening reception is at 5pm, Saturday 22 November, and the show runs until the 18 January, 2009.
As part of the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Goethe Institut in Beijing, they are celebrating with 12 hours of events held in the 798 Art District.
Zheng Yunhan has been commissioned to create a new installation, called 光的深处(乱流)Turbulence – the theme of past and future, double image of Beijing and Jixi from 1977–2008, which will be situated by the side of the main road which passes between UCCA and Timezone8 Cafe.
Goethe Night starts at 2pm and goes on throughout the day and night, finishing at 2am the following morning. Many other events are planned, including performances by German and Chinese musicians, performances and installations, and some games, apparently.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Wang Yuyang’s wandering moon will soon be back on Chinese soil (suspended slightly above it, to be precise).
After a spectacular installation in Florence, Italy, Artificial Moon is being installed as part of the Shanghai E-arts Festival 2008 in October. It will be on display for 5 days only in the show FINAL CUT: processing new media in public space curated by Davide Quadrio and Defne Ayas of Arthub.
The Nanjing Triennial opened last week, and although a bit chaotic as these things always are on their first night, the show looks very strong. Our artists Zheng Yunhan and Wang Yuyang have new pieces on show.
Zheng Yunhan has produced a photographic piece from his new series of works, ‘Sunflowers Project’. The works from this project stem from the planting of a landscape of sunflowers near his home town of JiXi, in Northern China.

In a darkened room Wang Yuyang has created the installation ‘Tonight I Will Consider Who I Am’, which follows on from ‘Moon-Landing Programme’ from 2006. The astronaut and his craft are now subject to some unknown disaster, set adrift in the cold and pitch black of space, the only source of light (and potential hope) being the intense flame of a welding torch, flickering amongst the wreckage.
