Gallery artist Michael Yuen has spent the last few months in Australia working on commissions and new shows, and will be returning to Beijing in June to work on a project for CPU:798 (among other things).

Some of Michael’s recently passed or current shows include:

• 19 January – 18 April 2009: Follow (documentation), shown as part of A Starting Point: Intrude Art & Life 366. Dynamics of change and growth Jan 1st – Dec 31st, 2008, Zendai MoMA, Shanghai.

• 24 March – 5 June 2009: K2-02, collaboration with architect Stephen Loo, South Australian School of Art, Adelaide.

• 8 May – 13 June 2009: Pulse, shown as part of Plastorama & More, Northern Territory Centre for Contemporary Art, Darwin.

As announced, Friday marked the CLOSING EVENT for Wei Weng’s Antimapping Project at the space. It was a magnificent destruction of the installation by a group of specially press-ganged child soldiers, taking the works apart and reconfiguring them to more closely match their desires.

As part of the event, a clothing line was invited to demonstrate it’s methods. This one child was mesmerized by the machine.

Clearing away all dead wood, the children were hoisted by their handlers into position.
